Meet Our Doctor

Judith A. Gurdian, MD

Dr. Gurdian obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University. After completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown, she proudly spent four years serving as a staff obstetrician in the U.S. Air Force. During this time, she also functioned as the medical student and resident coordinator, was in charge of high-risk obstetrics, and was on faculty at USUHS in Bethesda, MD.

After completing her military service, Dr. Gurdian opened up her practice in Rockville, MD. She is honored to have been listed annually in the Top Doctors List in the Washingtonian Magazine as well as Consumer Report and Washington Checkbook.

Dr. Gurdian is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is an active member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the North American Menopause Society. She is currently on staff at the Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s (SGMC).

Dr. Gurdian has served in a number of positions at Shady Grove. She is the current President of the Medical Staff and serves on Performance Improvement, Credentialing, Professional Affairs and the Medical Executive Committee. She is a past Chief of the OB/GYN Department, Chair of Peer Review, and a member of Profession Performance Executive Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors of Capital Women’s Care and the Governing Board of Shady Grove Medical Center.

Dr. Gurdian has a particular interest in high risk OB, menopause and complex health care issues. From a leadership perspective she is passionate about quality of care and improving hospital and practice care as well as development of a more robust peer review process in the hospital. Dr. Gurdian speaks conversational Spanish. Outside of work she loves to travel, enjoys theater, dance, music and skiing.

Meet Our Doctor

Michelle Spector, MD

Dr. Spector originally hails from New York State. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University where she graduated magna cum laude with a double major in biology and psychology. She then attended Washington University for medical school and Emory University for her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After completing residency, Dr. Spector entered the U.S. Air Force and moved to Texas. She was a Staff Physician at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio for 4 1/2 years where she practiced obstetrics and gynecology and was on the teaching faculty for residents. 

On completion of her military commitment, she entered private practice in Austin, Texas. After taking a year off for the birth of her twins, Dr. Spector moved to Rockville and entered practice with Dr. Gurdian. Dr. Spector enjoys all aspects of practice, but has a particular interest in high-risk obstetrics and management of osteoporosis. Dr. Spector is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is on staff at Shady Grove Medical Center where she was past Chair of the OB/GYN Department and remains a member of OB/GYN Peer Review.

Meet Our Doctor

Tanya S. Ghatan, MD, MBA, FACOG

Dr. Ghatan started her medical studies in Washington, D.C. with an undergraduate degree from George Washington University and stayed to get her medical degree from the university’s School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the School of Medicine as well.

She then moved to Massachusetts, where she served as a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and an attending physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She also worked as a consulting physician at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a physician at Faulkner Hospital, both in Boston, before returning to the Washington area.

Dr. Ghatan returned to George Washington University to earn an MBA with a specialization in Healthcare Focus. She also worked as the medical director for MedStar Women’s Community Health Practices at MedStar Washington Hospital Center while serving as an assistant professor at Georgetown University.

Some of Dr. Ghatan’s accolades include an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, earned while she was at MedStar hospital; the Eleanor and Miles Shore Fellowship from Harvard Medical School; and the Samuel and Miriam Dodek Award for Excellence in Reproductive Endocrinology from George Washington University.

Dr. Ghatan is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Ghatan also speaks Hebrew and conversational Spanish.

Meet Our Doctor

Dr. Shivani Agarwal

Dr. Agarwal is originally from Kolkata, India. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After graduation, Dr. Agarwal worked as a research engineer in Los Angeles and New York city. She then attended Upstate Medical University in New York for medical school and Rutgers NJMS for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She subsequently moved to Rockville to join our practice.

Dr. Agarwal enjoys all aspects of generalist practice, but takes a particular interest in complex contraception and gynecologic surgery. She speaks Hindi and Bengali fluently, and conversational Spanish.

Meet Our Physician Assistant

Patricia E. Shevock, PA-C

Mrs. Shevock studied at Millersville State University and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Clinical Health Services. In 1980 she completed her Physician Assistant training from Hershey Medical Center in PA. She is Board Certified with an additional sub-speciality in Internal Medicine. Mrs. Shevock’s prior experience includes certification in Radiologic Technology, which she utilized at George Washington University Hospital and Arlington Hospital. Before specializing in OB/GYN, Mrs. Shevock worked as a Physician Assistant in family practice for ten years, dealing primarily with women’s health issues. There she supervised in-training medical students. She worked for two years on the medical and surgical floors at Mt. Vernon Hospital in VA. Mrs. Shevock has specialized in women’s health for 30 years. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Meet Our Practice Manager

Theodora K. Chahalis

Theodora is a native of the Washington, DC area and attended the University of Maryland. She has worked in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 30 years, 23 years with Capital Women’s Care. She specializes in coding, medical billing, and surgical posting, and is committed to implementing the medical protocols to ensure an exceptional experience for every patient that walks into the office. She focuses on a supportive work environment for providers and staff.

The greatest joy in her position is witnessing the compassion, dedication, and high level of professionalism of the staff for their patients.

She is the proud mother of six, and grandmother of 14 grandchildren. Fluent in Greek, she enjoys traveling, reading and bike riding in her spare time.

She is known for her “open door policy” to help anyone in need, and her eagerness to assist with any aspect of the practice.
