We are offering Tdap to all our pregnant patients. Last year there were almost 50,000 cases of Pertussus (Whooping Cough) in the United States. Children who got sick were most often infected by their mother or a care giver. If vaccine is available we are also happy to vaccinate fathers of babies.
CDC recommended in 2012 that all pregnant women be vaccinated whether or not they had received the vaccine in the past. In addition to protecting the woman, there is evidence that the antibodies cross the placenta and may protect the infant from infection or decrease the severity of the disease for infants.
Flu vaccine is also recommended for pregnant woman and is safe for mother and baby. As vaccine is available we will also provide it to non-pregnant women.
